The blacksmithy skill allows craftsman to work with ingots – ore mined and smelted – for weapons and armor. It is indispensable for melee-focused classes such as the Mercenary, Paladin, or Berserker. However, its services are also valued by other professions—such as the Priest, Heretic, or Hierophant—which do not fight on the front lines but rely on heavy plate armor and shields during their adventures.

Experienced blacksmiths can process rare metals, whose properties are reflected in the quality and strength of the weapons and armor they produce. Additionally, they are capable of crafting various tools, metal hoops for barrel and keg production, and bolas—throwing devices capable of dismounting riders from their horses.

In addition to the ingots themselves, blacksmithing requires appropriate tools and an anvil. Beginners can make use of the public smithies located directly in Lios—the city where a player becomes a craftsman. Later, however, an experienced blacksmith can craft their own tools, anvil, and forge to set up a fully functional smithy within their own home.

The production of weapons and armor occurs in two stages and, in addition to metal, requires leather and wood. First, a semi-finished component (sub-component) is created, which must then be completed into the final product. For armor, additional ingots and leather are required for completion, while most weapons require ingots, leather, and—in the case of hafted weapons—wood.

Tools

To begin crafting, the appropriate tools, such as a hammer, must be in your inventory. These can be purchased from Blacksmith NPCs (Smithammer) or crafted by a Tinker using 4 iron ingots to create blacksmithing tongs (Tongs). Once a blacksmith acquires their first hammer, they can, with a little practice, produce their own. However, crafting them is not particularly cost-effective—the semi-finished component requires 7 ingots and 4 pieces of wood, while completion requires an additional 8 ingots and 6 pieces of wood.

A similar logic applies to mining tools; a shovel crafted by a Tinker costs only 4 ingots, whereas a pickaxe costs a total of 9 ingots and 7 pieces of wood. Since even a less experienced Tinker can produce a wide range of artisan tools and utility items, a basic knowledge of the Tinkering craft is highly beneficial for every blacksmith.

How to craft

The crafting process itself is straightforward—double-click the tool and then the ingot. If the item requires leather or wood, a system message will appear listing the necessary materials, and the player then selects the required resources. Completion follows a similar process: after double-clicking the tool, click on the work-in-progress item, followed by the required ingots and, if necessary, leather or wood.

Types of Metals and Their Effects

Different types of metals also have various effects on crafted armor and weapons.

On Weapons

Bronze – An easy metal to process. Crafting bronze weapons also consumes fewer ingots than, for example, iron.

Effect: Bronze weapons have a lower character level requirement (-3 compared to iron), but they also have lower penetration and deal less damage than iron weapons.

Iron – The most widely used metal for weapon production in the early game and for training the Blacksmith skill.

Effect: A basic metal with no special properties.

Lead – As demanding to process as iron; suitable only for blunt weapons.

Effect: Increases the chance to Taunt and holds Aggro more effectively. Primarily used by the Mercenary, for example.

Silver – More demanding to craft than iron.

Effect: Silver weapons deal increased damage to the undead, but have a higher character level requirement (+1 compared to iron).

Sangvine – The most demanding metal for weapon production.

Effect: Primarily intended for characters level 20 and above. While the best iron weapons can still be used at level 20, they will become insufficient as your level increases, necessitating the use of this superior metal. Sanguine weapons have better penetration and deal more damage than iron. Higher character level requirement (+9 compared to iron).

On Armors

Bronze – Easy to process. Crafting bronze armor also consumes fewer ingots than, for example, iron.

Effect: Usable from level 1. Low bonus to Armor and a significant penalty to Agility (Dexterity).

Iron – The most widely used metal for armor production in the early game and for training the Blacksmith skill.

Effect: A basic metal with no special properties. Usable from level 4.

Chlorite – More demanding to craft than iron; a very popular metal.

Effect: Increases Armor value and has a lower dexterity penalty than Iron/Arite/Gorinite armor. Can be used from level 10.

Hieronite – More demanding to craft than chlorite.

Efekt: Poskytuje menší postih při kouzlení než ostatní kovy. Lze používat od úrovně 15. Vhodné pro obrněné kouzlící postavy, např. Heretic.

Gorinite – stejně náročný na výrobu jako hieronite.

Efekt: Výšší bonus k Armor, ale větší postih do obratnosti. Lze používat od úrovně 15. Vhodné pro tanky, ale příliš se nevyužívá.

Hardgold – náročnější na výrobu než všechny předchozí kovy. Pouze pro ringmail/chainmail zbroje.

Efekt: Poskytuje výrazně vyšší bonus k Armor a má nižší postih do obratnosti (vylepšený chlorite). Lze používat od úrovně 18. Využívá např. Ranger a Rogue.

Arite – náročnější na výrobu než všechny předchozí kovy. Pouze pro platemail zbroje.

Efekt: Poskytuje výrazně vyšší bonus k Armor a má vyšší požadavek na level postavy než předchozí kovy. Výšší bonus k Armor, ale větší postih do obratnosti. Lze používat od úrovně 20. Využívá např. Mercenary a Paladin.

Mithril – nejnáročnější kov na výrobu. Těžbu a zpracování zvládnou pouze ti nejzkušenější řemeslníci.

Efekt: Poskytuje nejvyšší bonus k Armor a má nižší postih do obratnosti (vylepšený hardgold). Zároveň má nejvyšší požadavek na level postavy. Lze používat od úrovně 25.
